I finally received my Paperwhite from the US and had the chance to compare directly next to the Kobo Glo. I may flesh out a review later, but the summary is that in my opinion they are virtually identical. The Kindle is a little bit bigger in the hand, a little bit heavier, but not unpleasantly so and would not sway me either way.
Unlit the Pearl screens looked the same and when the light was turned up to full on both they shone to about the same degree. Neither screen is perfect in the same way a backlit lcd is, but seriously this is very unrealistic. You can see a brighter banding running across the top of the Kobo and a small area of increased brightness in the lower left hand corner. The Kindle shows a similar lower left hand light and some unevenness along the bottom where the leds are as seen in some of the reviews. When the light is turned down to a level you would use it is just not very noticeable in my opinion. I was reading both in a pitch black room last night and only needed the light on about 2/3 brightness. Otherwise I could not see any real difference between the screens. Both are very good.
The speed and contrast are very similar and although I think I preferred the fonts and menu on the Kindle that is just personal taste. I like being able to email books to the Kindle too, but I think the benefits of the epub format and expandability would more than make up for that. All in all I haven’t decided which to keep, but unless you have a large Kindle library it isn’t worth going out of you way to get a Paperwhite if it is unavailable in your country as it is here in the UK.

Finalmente recibí mi Paperwhite de los EE.UU. y tuvo la oportunidad de comparar directamente junto a la Glo Kobo. Me permite dar cuerpo a una revisión posterior, pero el resumen es que en mi opinión son prácticamente idénticos. El Kindle es un poco más grande en la mano, un poco más pesado, pero no tan desagradable y no me influir de cualquier manera.
Apagado de las pantallas de perlas tenían el mismo aspecto y cuando la luz estaba encendida a pleno en tanto que brillaba con el mismo grado. Ninguna pantalla es perfecta en la misma forma una pantalla LCD retroiluminada es, pero en serio que esto es muy poco realista. Se puede ver una brillante bandas que atraviesa la parte superior de la Kobo y una pequeña zona de mayor brillo en la esquina inferior izquierda. El Kindle muestra una luz parecida inferior izquierda y un poco de desnivel a lo largo de la parte inferior donde están los leds como se ve en algunas de las críticas. Cuando la luz se baja a un nivel que se utilizan no sólo es muy notable en mi opinión. Yo estaba leyendo a la vez en un cuarto de tono negro anoche y sólo necesitaba la luz en aproximadamente 2/3 del brillo. De lo contrario no podría ver ninguna diferencia real entre las pantallas. Ambos son muy buenos.
La velocidad y el contraste son muy similares y aunque creo que he preferido las fuentes y el menú en el Kindle que es sólo gusto personal. Me gusta ser capaz de enviar libros para el Kindle, pero yo creo que las ventajas del formato epub y capacidad de expansión que más que compensar por eso. En suma, no se ha decidido que mantener, pero a menos que tenga una gran biblioteca Kindle no vale la pena salir de ti manera de conseguir un Paperwhite si no está disponible en su país, ya que es aquí en el Reino Unido.
